Basics of Foot and Ankle Care

The Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) successfully conducted its First Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme for 2026 on 18 June 2026, from 8.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., at the Lecture Theatre of the University Hospital, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). The programme, titled “Basics of Foot and Ankle Care,” brought together Medical Officers, Dental Officers, Nurses, and other healthcare professionals from the Tri-Services to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in the assessment and management of foot and ankle conditions.

The programme was inaugurated by the President of SLCOMM, Air Commodore Dr. A.H.P.P. Kariyapperuma, who emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and continuous professional development in maintaining clinical excellence and delivering high-quality patient care. The academic sessions were conducted by an expert panel comprising Surgeon Commodore Dr. Chinthaka Wijedasa, Surgeon Commodore Dr. Samitha Samaraweera, and Dr. Madusha Jayasekara, who delivered comprehensive lectures and practical demonstrations on foot biomechanics, common clinical disorders, podiatric assessment, and gait analysis. The interactive sessions provided participants with valuable hands-on experience, reflecting SLCOMM’s continued commitment to enhancing the professional competencies of Tri-Service healthcare personnel through high-quality continuing professional education.

Workshop on Basic Surgical Skills, Instrument Handling & Surgical Assisting

The Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) successfully conducted its Second Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme for 2026 on 16 July 2026 at the Lecture Theatre, KDU, bringing together military and civilian healthcare professionals to strengthen essential surgical competencies.

The workshop combined interactive lectures with hands-on practical sessions, focusing on instrument handling, suturing techniques, local anaesthetic infiltration, and surgical assisting skills. Under the close supervision of an experienced faculty, participants had the opportunity to practice making skin incisions, administering local anaesthetics, and performing wound closure using proper surgical techniques.

SLCOMM extends its sincere appreciation to the distinguished faculty, the organizing committee, and all participants for making this programme a great success, as the College continues to promote excellence in military medicine through quality professional education.

Basic Life Support

The Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) successfully conducted its Third Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme for 2026 on 22 July 2026 at the Army Hospital, Colombo. The programme focused on Basic Life Support (BLS), one of the most essential lifesaving competencies required of every healthcare professional.

The workshop brought together Nurses and paramedical tradesmen from the Tri-Forces to refresh and strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in the early recognition and management of life-threatening emergencies. The programme consisted of interactive lectures followed by hands-on practical training, enabling participants to develop confidence in delivering timely and effective resuscitation.

The College extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Director General Health Services of the Sri Lanka Army and the Director of the Army Hospital, Narahenpita, for generously providing the venue and facilities, as well as to the Organizing Committee and Executive Committee of SLCOMM for their dedication in making the programme a success.

Through initiatives such as this, SLCOMM remains committed to promoting continuous professional development and strengthening the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of Tri-Service healthcare professionals in delivering safe, timely, and high-quality patient care.

Workshop on Wound Care

30 July 2026 | Army Hospital, Colombo

The Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) successfully conducted its 4th CPD Programme, a Workshop on Wound Care, on 30 July 2026 at the Army Hospital, Colombo. The programme brought together nominated Medical and Dental Officers, Nurses and Physiotherapists from the Tri-Forces, with the participation of an experienced panel of resource personnel. The workshop provided an excellent platform to enhance knowledge and practical skills in the assessment and management of different types of wounds, further strengthening the delivery of quality military healthcare.
